Legislator Survey Comments - Jordan Ulery

Thank you for writing on this issue.

I was not present, have not seen complete television or video footage of the entire incident and have not talked with the Governor nor Councilors regarding what happened.

While we all have a right of free speech we must remember that there are limits on freedoms. For example liable and slander are freely spoken, but there is a course of actions against the speakers. In a public hearing, in a public setting freedom is likewise limited by common courtesy, decorum and process. Until I hear more about the specific behavior and specific charges I will withhold judgement or comment. In addition my comment upon the situation maybe viewed as interference in the judicial process, especially since I have no first hand evidence upon which to make a comment.

I am, however, very concerned that the State Police felt the need to arrest people and wonder why. I have been in situations where direct threats have been made, but I just ignored them, while heightening my situational awareness.  It does not appear that there was any cause at this meeting, but other charges may have been outstanding and this venue was used to effect arrest.

In this instance the options you provide are unreasonable and do not reflect the responsibilities of my office.  Your publication suggests that you have a predetermined opinion based upon a complete lack of information and a rejection of due process. In addition you claim to represent the constituents of New Hampshire.  When food shopping and at Sunday breakfast this issue has seldom come up in conversation.  In the one case it did, the person only wanted to know how to get more  information.

As an elected official I should act only within the limits of my office and only when all the facts of a situation are known.  Those who act precipitously betray their office, in my opinion.

Neither you no I know the cause of arrest and that is being kept confidential under 91a as "under investigation."  It is very possible those arrested were being charged with prior conduct either at the State House or at the Majority Leader's private residence.  Neither you nor I have that information.

Rather than responding like a radical liberal being upset at "something", I prefer to get all the information before taking action.  Despite requests, we do not yet have the information needed.  It may be infuriatingly slow, but it is our way of assuring everyone's rights are protected.
